Key Statements
- “We have worked closely with all those who seek to conserve our water, air and public lands and establish New Mexico as the clean energy state—and this grade shows we’ve worked well together. Having enacted 23 pro-conservation bills this year, this legislative session was an unprecedented success with significant increases to our renewable energy portfolio standard, passage of the surface owner’s protection act and the Renewable Energy Transmission Authority. Our budget included monies for land and wildlife conservation and clean energy projects, but I remain committed to finding a dedicated source of revenue for conservation projects around the state.” - 6/25/07
- “Not only is it, in my opinion, the natural born right of our citizens to enjoy the magnificent public lands in our state, it’s also very good business. Hunting, fishing, and other outdoor recreation contribute over a billion dollars to the state’s economy each year. I support both the “Right to Hunt and Fish” policy on New Mexico’s public lands and the sound wildlife management and conservation principles administrated by our Department of Game and Fish. You can have both.” - 10/30/07
